Calvin Harris was born in 1984 in Scotland as Adam Richard Wiles, Calvin Harris being his stage name. He became interested in electronic music early in his teen years and he had already made a couple of bedroom demos by 1999. He released his first two songs at the age of 18, at that time under the name Stouffer.
Attracted by the larger musical scene, he soon moves to London, but he manages to release only one song there. He encounters difficulties finding a job and release opportunities, so he moves back to Scotland and starts publishing his work on MySpace. He gets noticed by Mark Gillespie who starts Harris on the road to success.
Between 2006 and 2008 Harris signs a number of contracts with giants such as Sony BMG and EMI. He releases his first album in 2007, with 14 tracks produced and performed entirely by Harris himself. The album gets to the top of the charts quickly and Harris embarks on his first UK tour to promote it. His work was appreciated by Kylie Minogue and brought about collaboration with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Dizzee Rascal and many other famous names.
The following few years are not less successful – in 2009 he releases his second album and he becomes known as a producer, too. The period 2011-2013 brings international success for Harris – he tours with Rihanna, releases singles that top the charts in almost 30 countries around the world and he participates as DJ at high-profile events such as the MTV Music Awards.
Success stays with Harris from 2013 onwards, too – many of his songs have reached to number one on various different charts, he has performed main-stage on prestigious music festivals such as Coachella, he released a complete new album and he became Glamour’s Man of the Year in 2014.
