The Ferry family, of Italian origins, Americanized their original name, but Guy decided to change his name to the original one, carried by his great-grandfather. His true legal name became Guy Fieri in 1995, the year of his marriage.
He manifested interest in the cooking business from a very early age: as an elementary school student, he was washing dishes and selling Awesome Pretzels in order to gather money for his Student Exchange program to France.
Freshly returned from his French cuisine studies, Guy got a job at a Californian restaurant named Red Lion, located in Eureka, then he left for college, at the Nevada University, in Las Vegas. He got a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel Management and promptly obtained a position with Stouffer’s as developer of restaurant concepts and manager of the restaurant chain’s flagship in Long Beach, California.
Three years later he was district manager for an Italian restaurant chain, managing no less than 6 locations and recruiting and training their staff.
In 1996, Guy Fieri's net worth started to grow with the first restaurant opened by the now famous chef in association with a friend. Johnny Garlic’s concept restaurant expanded to 4 locations (one of them closed since) until 2008. A second concept, Tex Wasabi’s (a sushi restaurant) was opened in 2003.
Growing bigger on the restaurant scene, Guy Fiery opened his first restaurant in New York, in 2012, only to receive a scathing review from The New York Times – this review reached the dubious record of being the most read review of its kind ever.
Not deterred by the overwhelming negative review, Guy Fieri continued to believe in his skill and calling, and opened a second restaurant in Las Vegas. In 2006 he won The Next Network Food Star and received a contract for 6 episodes on the Food Network. His contract with the TV network was extended and he received special show formats.
In 2011 Guy Fieri signed an agreement with Carnival Cruise line to make his Guy Burger’s Joint concept available on cruise ships.
