Chesney was born Kenneth Arnold “Kenny” Chesney in 1969 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Of both Irish and English descent, Chesney was born in Corryton where he also graduated from the Gibbs High School. He also played baseball and football there, although his ultimate career would have nothing to do with sports. One Christmas Eve he received a guitar as present that he named “The Terminor”. He taught himself to play the guitar while at home. Soon afterwards he went to Johnson City where he obtained his degree in advertisement at the East Tennessee State University.
Chesney released his demo album with his own resources in 1989 in Bristol, Virginia. His album sold in over 1,000 copies, making for a great start for the young musician. He managed to sell these while playing at various local bars and he used the money to upgrade his guitar.
