He started singing in clubs at the age of 16, but not for money – his grandfather offered his services as a plumber in return for singing time on stage for his grandson.
Singing became a more serious interest for Buble when he was 18 and he entered and won a local talent contest (even though he was later disqualified by Bev Delich for entering the competition while still underage). He also won the Canadian Youth Talent Search, which brought him the opportunity to play in numerous gigs including clubs, bars, company parties, malls, cruise ships and many others.
Career breakthrough for Buble came in 2000 when he was invited to perform at the wedding of former Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney’s wedding. At the party, Buble met David Foster, the award-winning producer who later agreed to produce Buble’s album under his label if the singer was able to cover for the production costs. The debut album was released at the beginning of 2003 and quickly went on top in Canada, the UK, Australia and in South Africa, too.
A number of successful releases and awards came for Buble in the following years. In 2004 he won the Juno Award in the New Artist of the Year category. In 2005 he released his second studio album, which topped the charts in Canada, Japan and in Europe, too and brought 4 Juno Awards for Buble.
