Mick Jagger was born in 1943 in Dartford, Kent. He loved singing and listening to music as a very young child – a passion that accompanied him in his school years, too. He founded his first band with Keith Richards and Brian Jones in 1960, first playing for free in various London clubs.
They made their first appearance under the name Rolling Stones in 1962 and they started touring the UK not very long afterwards. In the beginning the band was playing rhythm and blues, but they soon found their own, unique voice and enjoyed huge success as early on in their career as 1964. Their first international hit, (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction came a bit earlier, though, in 1963.
The 1970’s was a decade of huge success and legal battles for Mick Jagger and for The Rolling Stones, too. In 1972 they went touring in the U.S. and they continued to release new albums. They experiment with styles in music just as much as in their stage appearance. In 1971 they split up with their manager and Jagger has been in charge of the band ever since.
Jagger began his solo career in 1985 with the album She’s the Boss, followed by three more solo albums in the period between 1985 and 2001, all of them rising to success quickly.
In 2000, Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones celebrated their 40th anniversary with a year-long tour and they returned in 2007 with another world tour that got into the Guinness Book of Records as the most lucrative concert tour ever.
In 2011, Jagger announced that he would be joining a new super-group called SuperHeavy, along with Dave Stewart, Damian Marley and Joss Stone and he continues to do charitable work and to participate in various other projects as well. He also has business enterprises other than music-related businesses, such as a film production company founded in 1995 and he has been in charge for developing and managing The Rolling Stones brand as well.
