Tiesto was born as Tijs Michiel Verwest in Breda, Netherlands in 1969. Few is known about his early life, but in 1994 he started releasing various musical materials for a local record company called Noculan Records. He mainly produced gabber and hardcore tracks while also adopting names such as DJ Limited or DA Joker. Later on, he was discovered by the manager of Basic Beat Recordings which was based in Rotterdam. In the same year, Tiesto signed up a contract with the company. During the time spent working for Basic Beat Recordings, he met Arny Bink.
The following years, Tiesto released released 4 plays which he extended for XTC and Bonzai Jumps. In 1997, together with Arny Bink, he decided that it is time to leave Basic Beat Records and start a company of their own. This collaboration resulted in the Black Hole Recordings which was to become one of the most popular record companies in Europe.
